I'd be surprised if he wasn't. You don't seem like the type of guy who'd do that for just 'bout anyone. [Then again, he didn't know Auron very well... something that crosses his mind as he casually stuffed his mouth with more food, before continuing.] Not that I'd judge or anything, if you were.
But I still think it's good that you cared enough to try and raise him on your own, no matter what the reasoning behind it was. Kids need to know there's somebody looking out of them, especially when it feels like they have no one, so you were probably more helpful than you're giving yourself credit for.
