(Taken from an app to Asgard RP)

Should anyone just bump into Auron on the street, all they'd see is an older, quiet man who has seen his share of fighting and might seem rather stoic about being brought into another world. What they'd be missing is a man who sorrows deeply, who loves deeply and who keeps his promises, past death.

Trained as fighting monk in the Church of Yevon, Auron developed an iron will and a keen understanding of the sword. However, his own gut feelings prevented him from progressing to the higher echeleons of the church. He declined to take an easy path he felt he hadn't earned and brought the ire of his higher-ups on his head. Still, he never apologized or backed down from his decision. So even though some situations could benefit from him, Auron is the type of man not to take them if there's something that doesn't quite mesh with his personal code of honor. Whatever is the result of the decision is something he bears on his shoulders willingly.

When he joined the pilgrimage of Jecht and Braska, it seemed a fine thing, to help save the world. Braska represented something truer than the church to Yevon. And Jecht? Jecht made him angry most of the time, being nearly his exact opposite by having little self-control. Called a “stiff” by Jecht, he kept the party in line. In turn, the two of them soften a lot of his hard edges. By the very end, Auron was very close to his friends. As canon says zero about his family, I'm inclined to believe Jecht and Braska became the only family he ever had.

Which was why he lost his mind when he had to watch them both give up their lives for he felt was nothing. He kept his promises to his friends for watching over their children, even hanging on after death to find a way to avenge them and fix the terrible spiraling cycle of Sin in Spira. The sorrow he feels for his friends' deaths is something he never actually talks about. However, when the party watches a scene from the past inside Zanarkand, seeing a fateful decision about Jecht becoming the final aeon, Auron's temper snaps. He slashes at a vision of himself over and over, proving that he grieves very deeply.

When Auron believes in something, it is iron clad. When he makes a promise, he will keep it no matter what. When he loves, he hangs onto that feeling and would give up everything for the sake of that person. It might not be overly demonstrative or something he writes on a billboard for everyone to see. But his feelings give him strength and keep him going far longer than most people ever could.

He likes his drink, within reason. Drinking to continually get drunk is pointless to him. He doesn't spend a lot of time in idle chit-chat. He might seem kind of cold to those who don't know him. He can respect a fellow fighter. Getting Auron to be anything resembling social is an exercise in futility. But if you can somehow earn his respect, this is one man you'd always want backing you up. (previous app notes end here)

Auron has the worst survivor's guilt ever, although he mostly does a good job of hiding it. Although he does have a dry, wry humor, he always seems vaguely sad. If Auron existed in the real world, he would be put on so many drugs for depression and the self-torture he seems to put himself through. Yet, he carries his sorrow alone and without complaint, to the point that it has aged him far beyond his 35 to 36 years. He can feel amused and occasionally pleased or even teasing, but it's been far too long since he's felt happy.

Auron also has a soft spot for younger kids and teens who, though they may fail and blunder along life, are sincere and earnest in what they do. He raised Tidus for 10 years without having any previous skills of raising anyone's kids. He feels paternal toward Tidus and probably Yuna as well, but would be reluctant to admit that. He doesn't want to steal anything that isn't rightfully his, in his own mind.

Other:

Auron is a decent swordsman. There are some worse and some greater, but coupled with his powerful will, it transforms him into a great swordsman. Unless you're a flying object, then Auron might have a little trouble swatting you.

The biggest other is that I am taking Auron from two games because he is essentially the same character. I am also taking Auron from Kingdom Hearts II. Unlike every other Final Fantasy character in that series, Auron doesn't seem like an AU version. He seems to be the same person. Why?

His first words in the game are “This is my story and you're not part of it.” The words “this is my story” are the arc words of Final Fantasy X, usually spoken by Tidus and sometimes Yuna. He grieves over something and says “My crime is I exist. It is...inexcusable” which refers to the survivor guilt outliving Jecht and Braska. At one point, you can briefly hear Auron's thoughts and the lines, although re-recorded for this game, are damn near word for word things he yelled at Braska and Jecht when they were all in Zanarkand together.

There's even the special combo he has with Sora where he says “Your pain shall be twofold” which is something he spoke in FFX for one of his attacks.

Although he does have a different style in KH2, I presume that was just artistic intent. That and they probably wanted to keep a more child friendly rating which is why Auron's jug of booze is missing. His attitude, fighting style and some of his dialogue are things spoken of in FFX. Please see the end of his wikipedia entry for more thoughts on this.

First Person (entry type):

So I know there's different worlds out there. They all exist in this book. You can move around in them depending on whatever machina makes it happen. I accept that.

I wasn't expecting to wake up into a new one without even knowing how I got here. Before I even got this book. So I've been exploring around a little bit. (He backs off to show a bit of the Underworld and a shot of Hades' monstrous arena.)

I could do without the skulls and the dark colors, but I'll take it. At least I'm not chained in prison any longer.

Third Person:

What was going on with his life lately? Wait, Auron thought, what was going on with his death lately, to be accurate.

Instead of being dead forever, he seemed to still be Unsent but in a completely different world. He'd been rescued from a confrontation with the Lord of the Dead. Sort of. His new companions hadn't known he'd been in the chamber of Hades' palace. However, they rescued him. Or he rescued them. Either way, staying in that palace was not smart and they'd escaped.

Auron eyed his traveling companions. A talking duck with a magic wand. A creature of no definite species he knew but had enough strength to haul a heavy shield as a weapon. And a boy with a blade shaped like a key.

He'd be better off exploring this place on his own. He'd be able to exist here as an Unsent. It made the most amount of sense. This kid and his friends didn't need him at all. As odd a trio as they seemed, they worked well against groups of Heartless.

Heartless. Sora had explained a bit about them. That kind of described Auron. Well, why not? His heart had been crushed long ago by circumstances, by time and by necessity. All he had to do was survive now. Even if that made him feel guilty for doing so.

Before he could brood on the same pains that had gnawed him forever, Auron felt like someone was staring at him. He turned his head to see Sora looking at him and quickly looking away. It was the sort of thing Tidus did when he was younger when he wanted his attention but didn't want to just come out right and say it. Against his better judgment, Auron felt his lips curl into a little smile.

“Your blade.”

“Hunh?” Sora looked at the keyblade in his hands. “What about it?”

“Why a key?”

“It's special. It's also a really long story.” Sora looked away. “All kinds of things have happened because of this blade.” Then he stopped. His two friends looked away. The tall one put a hand on Sora's shoulder, trying to be encouraging.

They were friends. Not allies. Friends. Something about being locked away had made his memory fuzzy on that. Did he have friends? He did once. Did he have any now? No. No he didn't.
“I'm listening.”

“What's that?”

This kid. What was with this kid, making him talk? Auron shook his head. “I don't...I don't talk a whole lot. But I can listen.”

“Oh really?” Sora's expression brightened. “Well, it started on this place called Destiny Islands...”
